That’s a great question! Finding out whether we are a good match is the most important part of therapy. Without it, we would not make good progress. Therefore, I see this as being both of our responsibility.

In short, I believe that it’s about your gut feeling. If it feels like you can trust, share, and express yourself safely in session, then it’s a good match. If it doesn’t feel right to you, that’s completely acceptable as an indication that we are not a good match. If you want to learn more, please feel free to read my article on this topic. I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation to help you make the decision, because of how much I value the right therapeutic fit. Click here to book your free consultation.

That’s a very reasonable question! The length of therapy really depends on your specific concern(s), as well as other factors such as your comfort level, how often you’re able to come for sessions, and your fit with the therapist. In general, I find that anywhere between 8 and 20 sessions is common. That said, it is not uncommon for people to need less (even one session!) or more than that. Some people even prefer to stay with a therapist long term. What’s most important isn’t how long it takes, but how you feel during and after sessions, how you view your progress, and how well you connect with the therapist.

It’s completely understandable to feel hesitant if past counselling didn’t help. The truth is, therapy is a deeply personal experience, and it’s not uncommon for it to take more than one try to find the right fit. Different therapists bring different strengths to the table, and sometimes, it’s about finding the one you connect with on a deeper level. This connection can make all the difference in how you experience therapy. My approach might resonate with you in a way that’s different from your previous experiences, and together, we can explore what works best for you.

Therapy is meant to be a safe, confidential space where you can openly explore your challenges. Your conversations with me will remain private, and no one, including your employer or family, will know about what we discuss unless you choose to share that information. If you ever decide to involve someone else, we’d need your written consent through a signed release of information. There are a few legal limits to confidentiality that all mental health professionals in Ontario must follow, and we’ll go over these together in our first session so you feel fully informed and comfortable.

To find out if your insurance covers my services, start by calling your insurance company. Ask if they cover therapy sessions with registered social workers and check how much they will reimburse. Make sure to find out if there are any requirements for getting approval or referrals from your doctor. Reviewing your benefits information can also help you understand what’s covered and any steps you need to take for reimbursement. If you need help with this process, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Yes! I do. I can direct bill to several companies, including, Alberta Blue Cross, Desjardins, Manulife, and more. Please contact me to see if I can direct bill to your insurance.

If your insurance covers less per session than my rates, you have a few options. You can choose to pay the difference between the covered amount and my fee out of pocket. Additionally, I offer a sliding scale for those who need financial assistance. Please reach out to me directly to discuss your situation and see if sliding scale options are available to you. I’m here to help find a solution that works for you while supporting your needs.

Payment is expected within 24 hours of the session.

You can pay for sessions using several methods to suit your preference. Payments can be made via the Jane App, which allows for secure credit card transactions. If you prefer, you can also pay in cash or through an e-transfer. When paying via e-transfer, please use the email address provided for this purpose and include your name and the date of the session in the message for proper identification. If you encounter any issues or have questions about payment methods, please contact me directly. I’m here to assist with any payment concerns or to discuss alternative arrangements if needed.

If you need to cancel your appointment, please provide at least 48 hours’ notice. This allows me to offer the time slot to another client. If you cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice, a cancellation fee will apply: $40 for a 50-minute session and $60 for an 80-minute session, including the intake appointment. If you have any questions or need to discuss your cancellation, please contact me as soon as possible.

Sessions are scheduled for 50 minutes rather than a full hour to accommodate time for preparation, documentation, and a brief buffer between clients. This structure helps ensure that each session is conducted smoothly and that all necessary administrative tasks are completed without affecting the next appointment. Additionally, by offering 50-minute sessions, I am able to keep the rates lower, making therapy more accessible.
